Varsity Head Coach Steven Van Horn
Coach Van Horn started coaching at Grissom in 2009. Under his direction, the 2010 Grissom Tiger's won the 2010 6A State Championship. Steve was awarded the 2010 Huntsville Metro Coach of the Year, and the 2010 Birmingham News State Boys Coach of the year.
Coach Van Horn started coaching with the Kicks Futbol Club in 2005, moving to the United Soccer Club in 2007, taking the '90 Girls to the state finals twice (U17 with Kicks and U19 with United), and the United '91 Girls to the State semifinals in 2010.
Steve started club soccer with the Hawks Soccer Club in Dallas, playing on the '83 boys team, perennial state semifinalists and two-time finalists. Steve played in five Dallas Cups as well as playing in the Gothia Cup in Sweden and reaching the semi-finals in the Harlem Cup in the Netherlands.
Coach Van Horn came to Huntsville to play for University of Alabama-Huntsville. A four year starter, he made the 1st team all conference team twice, and was selected the NSCAA/Adidas All South Region Team as a senior.
Steve continued his playing career with Rocket City United, a local National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) team, starting with their inaugural year, 2007, and continuing through 2010.
Assistant Coach Greg Arndt
Coach Arndt has been with the Grissom soccer program since 1984. Coach Van Horn is the fifth head coach he has worked with. While he leaves the technical coaching to the head coach, he takes care of everything else, including physical training, scheduling, player stats, and keeping O'Halloran Field in good shape. He rounds up teams from as far away as Utah to play in the Southern Soccer Challenge as well as scheduling competitive varsity and JV matches in Tennessee and Georgia. The Grissom Soccer Program would never be where it is today without the selfless years of commitment of Coach Arndt.
Faculty Sponsor and Assistant JV Coach John Garrett
John has served as Faculty Sponsor for Grissom Men's Soccer since 2008. As such he is the coach in the eyes of the AHSAA and must be at at all varsity and JV games, or find a substitute. He also serves as a liaison between the coaches and the administration, and is responsible for all paperwork and administrative tasks. John says that he is proud to a part of the Grissom men's soccer program.
He also assists Todd with the JV coaching duties.
JV Coach Todd Wood
Todd Wood started coaching the Grissom JV team in 2005. Coach Wood is a former Grissom player and brings with him his club coaching experience.
Goalkeeper Coach Doug Bailey
Doug Bailey coaches both JV and Varsity Grissom goalkeepers.
